He was one of the most prominent and prolific singers in the Indian film industry, with a career spanning over five decades. Balasubrahmanyam sang in various languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam, and recorded over 40,000 songs in his career. Born in 1946, Balasubrahmanyam started his career as a playback singer in the 1960s and quickly gained popularity with his unique voice and versatile singing style. He became known for his ability to modulate his voice to suit different actors and their performances, earning him the title of "Singing Actor" in the industry. He collaborated with several renowned music directors and composers, including Ilaiyaraaja and A. R. Rahman, and won numerous prestigious awards for his contributions to Indian music. In addition to his successful singing career, Balasubrahmanyam also worked as a music director and actor. He composed music for several films and acted in over 70 movies in various languages.
