J. Walker was an African-American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and activist who became one of the first self-made female millionaires in the United States. Born as Sarah Breedlove on December 23, 1867, she faced numerous challenges growing up, including poverty and lack of educational opportunities. However, she was determined to create a better life for herself and her daughter. Walker worked as a washerwoman and cook before eventually becoming interested in hair care and beauty products for African-American women. She developed her own line of hair care products, which proved to be highly successful. She used a direct sales model, recruiting and training sales agents, mainly African-American women, whom she referred to as "Walker Agents". As her business grew, Walker expanded her product line and opened beauty salons and schools across the United States, empowering other African-American women and providing them with employment opportunities. She also became involved in activism and philanthropy, using her wealth and influence to support causes such as education, anti-lynching campaigns, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Madam C. J. Walker's success and contributions helped challenge societal norms and break barriers for African-American women in business and entrepreneurship. Her life and achievements are still celebrated today, and she remains an influential figure in African-American history.
