Born in Waterville, New York, Eastman displayed an early interest in photography and began experimenting with various techniques. In 1888, he introduced the Kodak camera, a portable device that made photography accessible to the masses. Eastman's innovations revolutionized the photography industry, as he also developed flexible photographic film, and later, color film. He established several factories and expanded his company globally, transforming Kodak into a leading multinational corporation. Besides his successful business ventures, Eastman was also keen on philanthropy. He donated large sums of his wealth to educational institutions, healthcare initiatives, and the arts. In his later years, however, Eastman experienced declining health and suffered from depression. On March 14, 1932, he died by suicide with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Despite his tragic end, George Eastman left a lasting legacy as a pioneer in photography and as a philanthropist who sought to enhance the lives of others.
