The FAO works with governments, civil society organizations, and the private sector to develop and implement policies, strategies, and programs to promote sustainable agricultural practices, improve rural livelihoods, and enhance food production and distribution. It provides technical assistance, capacity building, and policy advice to member countries, promotes international partnerships and cooperation, conducts research and analysis on food and agriculture issues, and advocates for inclusive and sustainable agricultural systems. The FAO also plays a vital role in emergency response and disaster risk reduction, helping communities and countries recover from natural or man-made crises and build resilience. Since its establishment in 1945, the FAO has been contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 2 which aims to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.
